Spiced fresh broad beans and peas

  • 1 red pepper cut into chunks

  • 1 lemon juiced

  • 6 tbsp extra virgin olive oil

  • 1 tsp ground cumin

  • 1 tsp cumin seeds dry fried

  • 2 lemons zested

  • 3 cloves garlic crushed

  • 1 handful fresh coriander or other fresh herbs - mint, flat leaf parsley

  • 2 red chilli mild, chopped

  • 1 handful black olives pitted and chopped

  • 200g fresh peas podded

  • 400-600g broad beans double podded


  1. Boil the beans and peas for 2 minutes, then drain under cold water for 1 minute.
  2. Add beans, oil, lemon zest and juice, garlic, chilli, pepper, cumin seeds and ground cumin to a frying pan and warm through for 3-4 minutes.
  3. Remove from the heat and add peas, fresh herbs and olives.
  4. Season to taste. Serve with crusty bread or a tagine and couscous.

Handy Hint

Gorgeously fresh and light, with lots of flavour, great served warm or cold.

    Brilliant use of home grown super fresh peas and beans. Children adore podding so get them involved.
