Bengali Fish Curry

  • 1/2 tsp curry powder

  • 200ml hot water

  • 2 portions White Fish (cod, haddock) enough for two people

  • 1/2 tsp Turmeric

  • 1 pinch Fenugreek seeds

  • 2 Freshly Chopped Tomatoes

  • 3 tbsp Cooking oil (sunflower, rapeseed, Light Olive oil)

  • 1/2 tsp salt

  • 2 cloves chopped or crushed garlic


  1. Heat oil on medium heat, add garlic and cook for one minute.
  2. Add Fenugreek seeds. cook for further minute.
  3. Add chopped tomatoes, mix everything and cook on medium/ low heat for 5 minutes.
  4. Add turmeric and curry powder.
  5. Stir everything, cook for two minutes.
  6. Add fish and gently mix trying not to break the fish.
  7. Cook for two minutes.
  8. Add hot water and cook for further 3 minutes or until fish is cooked.

Handy Hint

Trial and error and you can adjust ingredients to suit your taste. Works well with potatoes but they need to go in early to allow for cooking time.
