  • 2oz self-raising flour

  • 2oz caster sugar

  • 1 medium egg

  • 2oz butter or margarine at room temperature


  1. Put your little greaseproof bun cases in your bun tray
  2. Pre-heat the oven to 180C or gas mark 4
  3. Cream the butter and sugar together for ages with a wooden spoon, until the butter is a much paler yellow than before
  4. Beat in the egg
  5. Add the flour and mix
  6. Use a desert spoon to get the mixture into the bun cases
  7. Put in the oven for 12-15 minutes or until you just can't wait anymore

Handy Hint

Use a wooden spoon and elbow grease for best results :) This recipe does 6 old style, old size cakes, you'd have to double it or more for today's super sized cup cake linings
