  • 1 onion

  • 1 leek

  • 1 swede

  • 4 potatoes (or as many as you think you will need)

  • 1 carrot

  • 8 beef stock cubes

  • 2 packets of fresh diced beef

  • 1 pint onion gravy

  1. Peel and chop all vegetables and put in a pan. Add cold water and all the beef.
  2. Bring to the boil.
  3. Add 8 crushed stock cubes.
  4. Cook for an hour and 20 minutes.
  5. Whilst waiting, peel and cut potatoes into fours (white potatoes are particularly nice with this).
  6. Once the hour and 20 minutes are up add the potatoes and leave to cook for a further hour.
  7. 10 minutes before serving add onion gravy to thicken the stew juice, Add to desirable thickness.

Handy Hint

You will need a pan that will fit all potatoes, vegetables and meat as well as juice and the children can help with passing the vegetables. Also can be used for babies if liquidised. Can be vegetarian if you don't use the beef.

I wouldn't feed this to kids with that amount of Oxo cubes and the gravy. I'm sure it would be lovely without them or perhaps adding one or two.

Bit worried about the number of stock cubes plus gravy! Perhaps this makes the salt content a little high?
