This cake is delicious! So light and chocolately. DH and DCs love it. I increased the ingredients so that I could make a tray back in a 23cm x 23cm square tin. When cooked and cooled I then made some simple icing (lots of icing sugar and a tiny bit of water) and spread it over and then covered in mini smarties, or maltesers or any other sprinkly thing you have at hand. This is what I used for the square tin I used: 250g SR flour 170g caster sugar 225g milk 1.5 tsp baking powder 6 tabs cocoa powder 225g sunflower oil 3 tsp treacle 3 eggs

Sadly I'm not such a fan. It makes a wonderful batter, but my husband and I didn't enjoy the taste of the cake at all (although my children did - so they can happily munch their way through it).

Fantastic recipe. I'm not much of a baker but this has worked every time I've made it! DD loves making it with me too. I have never added treacle and it still works fine without it.

Hi. What is treacle exactly? Can I put golden syrup instead? Thanks

Very good easy chocolate cake! Made as birthday cake for childs party substituting soy milk to accommodate dairy allergies and worked very well. Moist tasty cake.

Works every time-have made it for years. Suppose bit more healthy as using oil Always moist so dont have to cover with buttercream, doesn't dry out as quickly as usual sponge. hope you like it- its my kids absolute favourite
