  • 1 tsp baking powder

  • 1 pinch cinnamon (optional)

  • 250g unsalted butter softened

  • 250g soft brown sugar

  • 2 tsp vanilla

  • 1 200-400g chocolate chunks or sultanas or whatever you fancy

  • 2 medium eggs

  • 250g porridge oats

  • 150g plain flour


  1. Preheat the oven to 180C/160C fan.
  2. Cream the butter and sugar together in a large bowl.
  3. Beat in the eggs and vanilla.
  4. Add the oats, flour, baking powder and spices (if using) and mix until well combined.
  5. Stir in the chocolate or sultanas and mix.
  6. Divide into about 30 blobs and space well apart on baking sheets lined with baking paper. Press down lightly.
  7. Bake for 15-20 minutes until golden at the edges.
