  • 2 tbsp self-raising flour

  • 1 tsp salt

  • 1 large onion halved and thinly sliced

  • 1 tsp chilli chopped

  • 1 tsp cumin

  • 1 tsp garlic crushed

  • 1 handful coriander chopped

  • 6 tbsp chickpea flour rounded

  1. Add the sliced onion to a large bowl.
  2. Add all of the herbs and spices to the onion and mix well.
  3. Lastly, add both the chickpea and self-raising flours to the onions and spices. Mix all of these ingredients together well.
  4. Add as much warm water as you need to make a batter (it should be slightly thicker than pan cake batter).
  5. Heat some oil in a pan until hot. Meanwhile, mould the batter into round balls and deep fry in the oil for one minute on each side or until golden.

Handy Hint

Bring the oil to a high temperature then turn down to medium - this will stop the bhaaji from getting too golden.
