Lentil, cheese and carrot wedges

  • 1 large onion chopped

  • 115g cheese grated

  • 1 eggs

  • 225g red lentils

  • 2 medium carrots grated

  • 1 tsp dried mixed herbs

  • 30g breadcrumbs

  • 30g butter


  1. Preheat oven to 190C/Gas Mark 5.
  2. Cook the lentils.
  3. Melt the butter and fry the onion until transparent.
  4. Take off the hob and let it cool for a bit.
  5. Add the carrots and all the other ingredients and give it a good mix.
  6. Press into a greased 9” sandwich tin.
  7. Bake in the oven for 30 minutes.

Handy Hint

Can eat warm or cold. Freezes well - take a wedge out of the freezer at a few hours before and put in a oven proof dish. When you want to cook it, put in the oven for about 20 mins.

    I have been making this for my DD (21 months) for the last 5 months, its the only meal she will finish off completely everytime... loves it with beans. Freezes well too. Its been a sanity saver during the 'fussy eating' stage!!

    Thanks for this great recipe! Made this for our baby led weaner and she couldn't get enough. Really easy for her to handle, mind you she attacked these with such gusto she would have managed even if a face-down hoovering manoeuvre was required! It will be really easy to vary the recipe with different cheeses, veg and herbs. This will be a regular for us too.

    A fantastic recipe! I cooked the lentils in chicken stock this time, and next time I'll experiment with garlc, bacon or leeks etc. Thank you, babyOcho! This will definitely be a regular dish for me!

    great for BLW and reluctant meat eaters (like my DD). got this from somewhere else, it's a great recipe.
