  • 1 tbsp tomato puree

  • 1 slice cheese

  • 500g minced beef

  • 1 tbsp mixed dried herbs

  • 1 tbsp plain flour

  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce

  • 1 egg

  1. Mix together the minced beef with the flour and egg - you can leave both out if you want/need to but they do help the burgers hold together while cooking.
  2. Add your seasoning ingredients. Herbs are nice, as is Lea and Perrins, salt and pepper and tomato puree. You could also use chilli sauce/flakes, BBQ sauce, fresh herbs or nothing at all. Just try to make sure the mix doesn't become too sloppy.
  3. Form thin burgers from the mix. You want these to be half the thickness that you'd like your finished burgers to be.
  4. Place a piece of cheese on top of one burger and squash another one down on top to form a thick burger with the cheese sandwiched in the middle. You can use any cheese you like - Cheddar or mozzarella works well for children but adults might like something stronger.
  5. Cook the burgers under a grill or on a BBQ for 15-20 minutes until cooked through. The cheese will melt inside as the burgers cook.
