  • 250g self-raising flour

  • 1/2 tsp bicarbonate of soda

  • 250g sugar

  • 1 tbsp golden syrup

  • 250g porridge oats

  • 250g margarine

  • 1 tbsp hot water


  1. Pre-heat oven to 180C.
  2. Mix flour, oats and sugar in a bowl and leave.
  3. Melt margarine, syrup and water in a pan and stir in bicarbonate of soda.
  4. Add the wet mix to the dry mix and stir well.
  5. Make smallish ball, place on greased tray and flatten slightly with a fork.
  6. Put into oven at about 180C for 15 minutes.
  7. Tip out onto a cooling wire rack when cooked.

Handy Hint

Biscuits should turn golden in the oven not brown.

    Lovely and crunchy the next day after cooking. Easy and very tasty recipe. I did add more water than stated to get it to bind.

    A lovely and easy recipe, much better than the actual McVities Hobnobs.
