Slow cooked spaghetti bolognese

  • 1 onion chopped

  • 2 tbsp tomato puree

  • 2 tbsp caster sugar or to taste

  • 4 tins chopped tomato

  • 2 celery stick chopped

  • 550g minced beef

  • 250ml red wine

  • 3 cloves garlic chopped

  • 1 tsp oregano

  • 6 large mushrooms chopped

  • 2 carrot chopped

  • 2 beef stock cubes

  • 1 bag Parmesan for sprinkling


  1. Put all the veg and garlic into the slow cooker.
  2. Add the mince and crumble the stock cube over the veg.
  3. Add the wine, tomato puree, oregano and tomatoes. Mix well.
  4. Cover and cook for about 6.5 to 7 hours
  5. Season well and add the sugar to taste
  6. Serve with spaghetti, sprinkled with Parmesan to taste, and a fresh green salad on the side.

Handy Hint

Break up the mince when you add it and stir occasionally if you can to stop the meat from clumping together.

    What temperature do you use? Never used a slow cooker before!

    Make it veggie and use Quorn.

    I don't like red wine.....can i leave it out or is it needed? x

    This recipe is absolutely delicious and my children can't get enough of it! Feel free to add as many veg to it as you like (ie courgette, peppers etc).
