  • 225g self-raising flour

  • 1 tsp bicarbonate of soda

  • 225g sugar

  • 2 tbsp golden syrup or honey

  • 2 tsp ground ginger

  • 225g porridge oats

  • 225g butter


  1. Melt together the butter and golden syrup or honey.
  2. Add the dry ingredients and mix.
  3. Put into balls onto baking sheets.
  4. Bake for 10 minutes at 180C/Gas Mark 4.
  5. Leave for a while and then put onto racks to cool.

Handy Hint

Makes loads of biscuits so I cook some trays more than others as some of us like the biscuits very crisp, others more soft and chewy.

    Made these again last night, they are so easy to throw together. Didn't add the ginger this time but added choc chip to some and apricots to others. Fantastic! They freeze well too!

    Right...definatley grease the trays a little. worked great with my Gluten Free flour also, so a real bonus. The Handy hint was a brilliant idea as my children like them different ways. Should add leave plenty of space between the biscuits as they "Grow" in the oven. did not make as many as I thought they would so would do double next time ...but we are a large family!! I would also add more ground ginger as could not really taste it in my biccies and I love ginger.... these are really scrummy and thankyou for posting it here OP

    In process of making these now but do I need to grease the baking trays?. If OP Anon ever checks in could you post this..I am not gonna grease and will report back. Seems really easy to make..have changed the recipe to a Gluten Free flour as I have coeliac disease..hope they work!!!!

    Made these whilst the DCs ate breakfast and they were busy chomping through them before I would find an empty box. Easy to make and so easy to eat!! Tasty, tasty, tasty. Thank you whoever posted this recipe. :)
