  • 30g cheese grated

  • 120ml full-fat milk

  • 15g butter

  • 1 tbsp plain flour

  • 3 broccoli florets

  • 3 cauliflower florets

  1. Simmer or steam the cauliflower and broccoli until tender and drain.
  2. Melt the butter in a pan, stir in the flour and add the milk very slowly, stirring continuously until the sauce has thickened.
  3. Remove from the heat and add the cheese.
  4. Stir in the cauliflower and Broccoli and mash with a fork or puree (dependant on the age of the child).

Handy Hint

Don't let the sauce come to a boil as it will make it runny. If you keep stirring on a low heat then it will eventually thicken.

Just to note - it doesn't puree properly unless the cauliflower is cooked until it's mushy. Otherwise it stays in tiny lumps, which isn't great for a fussy baby, or one who has just started puree! I made the mistake, but it just meant I could eat a batch - yummy!

My 8 month old loves this! It's a nice basic dinner to try then add in other ingredients as tastes grow.

This was a huge hit with my boys when they were babies and we all still enjoy it now, although we now use stroger flavoured cheese and don't puree it :D
