The not-so-scary Halloween challenges

Squash people and animals

What you will need:

  • Lidl's squashes
  • Lidl's Halloween paints
  • Twigs from outside
  • A sharp knife
  • Colouring pens

Method:

1. Select a large squash for the body and a smaller one for the head, and then stack them on top of each other. Alternatively use one large squash.

2. Get the kids to sketch out a face on the head, using colouring pens/paints.

3. Either carve out their designs for a classic Halloween look, or simply leave the paint to dry.

4. Carve a small hole on either side of the creature and stick in the garden twigs to create some arms.

5. Place a costume hat on the head, decorate with a ribbon scarf or dress them up however you fancy.

Spooky spider webs

What you will need:

  • Colourful A4 paper
  • Glue, tape and scissors
  • Colouring pens
  • Lidl's Halloween paints
  • Lidl's Halloween pasta shapes

Method for hanging decorations:

1. Cut out your spider web shapes using an A4 piece of paper.

2. Sketch out spooky shapes and designs and get the kids to decorate them with paints and colouring pens.

3. Hang up the webs using Blu-Tack.

Method for place mats:

1. Cut out more spider web shapes and place them onto another A4 piece of paper.

2. Paint over the shapes, leaving imprints on the bottom sheet - or simply stick the web onto the paper.

3. Get the kids to personalise the place mats with spooky colourings and the name of your guests. The web should be centered in the middle of the A4 page, where you place your plate.

4. You may want to use a few Halloween pasta shells to add to the spooky decorations.

Monstrous marshmallow cupcakes

What you will need:

  • Lidl's Halloween cooking cases
  • Lidl's Halloween marshmallows
  • Lidl's cupcake mix
  • Butter icing with orange colouring
  • Butter icing with black colouring

Method:

1. Mix-up Lidl's ready-made cupcake mix, pour into the moulds and bake as per the pack instructions.

2. Decorate the cupcakes with the icing and marshmallows.

3. Finally, tuck in to your frighteningly good treats.
