Smoothie tips and tricks

"I buy discounted bananas, or any that are hanging around the kitchen at the end of their life, and then peel, chop and freeze them. They blend up a treat with fruits that are lurking in the fridge drawer - the frozen bananas make it lovely and cool and creamy."

"My tip for healthy smoothies is putting spinach in them. The smoothie doesn't taste of the spinach but instead tastes of whatever fruit you add. So spinach, a banana, handful of berries, couple of tablespoons of natural yoghurt, handful of porridge oats, milk. I have that for breakfast most days."

"I use the fruit that the children swear they don't like - bananas, kiwi, whatever else is floating around. Pop it in the blender (while they aren't looking) add the juice or milk and blend."

"Try rainbow chard, a whole pomegranate's worth of seeds, raspberries, blackberries and blueberries topped up with coconut milk."

"My favourite is fresh ginger, rocket and fresh pineapple."

"My daughter usually has milk, oats, strawberries, banana, honey (and spinach, which I sneak in when she's not looking)."

Summer refreshers

"Chop up some watermelon flesh and pop into the blender. Add a handful of ice cubes, 150g of Greek yoghurt, 100g of raspberries and a spoon of honey. Blend and serve."

"Lassi is my favourite. Mango (use tinned pulp if fresh ones aren't available), natural yoghurt, honey, milk and a pinch of salt). Serve over lots of ice."

"We like quite zingy smoothies to cool us down. DD's favourite is banana, mango and clementine."

"Apple juice, dash of elderflower cordial, strawberries and crushed ice - it's very refreshing!"

"We all love this one: a whole pineapple, a bag of baby kale, four oranges and 500g of white seedless grapes. Super refreshing and bursting with goodness."

Energy boosts

"Milk, banana, avocado, a drizzle of honey and a splash of cream makes a real dreamy creamy cooling avocado smoothie. Looks a really pretty shade of pastel green too."

"Milk, bio yoghurt, banana, a scoop of chocolate powder and two tablespoons of almond butter."

"A breakfast shake that DD loves is banana, cocoa powder, cacao, sesame seeds, sunflower seeds, chia seeds, almonds, pecans, oats, maple syrup and plenty of milk."

"Cherries (de-stoned), raspberries, milk and cocoa powder - it tastes like Black Forest gateau and is divine!"

"Fruity power smoothie - milk, blueberries, banana, dates, mango, chia seeds, sunflower seeds and almond butter."

"Milk, banana, dehydrated peanut butter powder and cocoa nibs is delicious."

"Pick-me-up: dates soaked in coffee, then cooled, frozen banana, almond butter, almond milk, maca powder."

"Coffee smoothie: one normal cup of strongly brewed coffee, cooled, a cup of milk, a splash of vanilla essence, one to three teaspoons of sugar, two cups of small ice cubes, and you can also add some cocoa powder for a mocha alternative."

"Tropical: orange juice, pineapple, mango, ice and coconut rum."
