Five reasons to shop at Lidl this Christmas

Whether you've got the whole family round on Christmas Day or are having a few friends over for a quiet (ahem) evening, entertaining always goes a bit smoother with a bit of advance planning. Lidl hosted five Mumsnet bloggers at their Christmas in July event earlier this year – and we've rounded up their pick of drinks and dishes to put together a winner of a festive menu. You're welcome.

1. Nibbly bits: Smoked Salmon Canapés

Mummy and Boo discovered that some of the best things really do come in small packages – especially if those things are smoked salmon. “Christmas wouldn’t be Christmas without a canapé or 10! The smoked salmon canapé with salmon caviar looked amazing and tasted even better, these are definitely making an appearance on Christmas Day in our house.” Find out more about the other miniature foods Mummy and Boo loved, here.

2. To start: Gammon

Finding a starter that everyone will love is always a challenge, but Jacintaz 3 might be onto a winner with this Sloe Gin Gammon – you'll be living off the leftovers for days as well! Check it out along with Lidl's range of Deluxe Sharing Pies and Panettone in her blog post, here.

3. The main event: Goose

Mad Mum of 7 was very excited when she tried Lidl's Deluxe free range East Anglian Goose, “after tasting, I can heartily recommend that traditional option – it comes at a fraction of the cost of the last one I bought at my local butcher too!” You can read more about the dreamy Goose of Christmas Future, as well as an ambitious range of cheeses, in her blog post here.

4. To drink: Gin Cocktails

As Crummy Mummy found out, Lidl have three types of artisanal gin plus spice kits to make cocktails at home. “I had to try them out at home, for research purposes of course.” We're not saying there was a theme to her blog post, but Lidl's Allini Prosecco Treviso Frizzante was also very popular.

5. For dessert: Christmas cake

Obviously. Mummy and the Cuties is a blogger after our own heart, and clearly knows that all truly committed Christmas dinner aficionados have a separate stomach for dessert. Check out the beautifully festive, hand decorated Christmas cakes and 24-month aged Christmas Puddings in her blog post here.
