I had test driven earlier VW Golfs before and was not overly impressed - however I recently test drove and subsequently purchased a Mark 7 (2013 onwards). The 2.0 litre TDI SE is great - really fast (0-60 in 8.3 seconds) and so comfortable and smooth. It really comes into its own on the motorway - so quiet and you would think you are in a much more expensive, luxury German car. I love the Driver Profile selector - you can pick from Sport, Normal, Eco and Individual - normal gives the smooth, comfortable drive great on less than perfect roads. My favourite is Sport - you get a lovely growl from the exhaust, the steering noticeably becomes heavier and really clings to corners. The car can be anything you want it to be - sporty, sensible or refined. Will comfortably fit 5 adults - something many cars struggle with. I must add my husband had the 1.6 tdi blumotion as a long term rental and this was a completely different car from the 2.0 tdi SE - it lacked torque / acceleration and the interior was very cheap and plastic - one to avoid.

    "Fuel economy is fab, well-built"

We have just bought the Golf Bluemotion and had it for a month now. It is well built, has a nice interior and we can fit car seats in for our 8MO and 4YO easily. It is nice to drive, but the best thing about this car is the fuel economy. We drive to Italy twice a year and can almost do it on one tank of fuel!

Love this car after one year and 25 000 miles of driving. No fuss, looks good, fun when you are in the mood, reliable when you are not! Perfect!

    "Mk4 golf space issues"

We owned a 1.6 mk4 (2003) golf and while they are sturdy cars they are lacking in space. For a general run a round you can easily fit in 3 adults + a car seat and the boot will take a pushchair and some shopping. However for something like a holiday it just won't work. You will not have room for all the baby needs and your own luggage, and even with a roof box I think you'd be struggling.

    "Great, reliable car"

We've had our golf for 12 years - and it's still going strong. WE've had very few problems with it, & those that have popped up have been easily sorted. Great build quality & nice to drive. Our kids are now 6 & 8, and we can JUST fit them, and camping kit for a two week holiday in (with a roof box, of course!). Need to upgrade for more space, but love our Golf so much we're putting it off.
