    "Fun to drive"

Looks good, fun to drive but rubbish rear visibility. I have the 2l diesel and get 50mpg. I think the new model has better rear visibility. Very good servicing from the Honda main dealer and no more expensive than my local garages.

Being a petrolhead stifled by family considerations, I plumped for a Honda about 4 years ago, trying a CR - V first. Brilliant car, loved it but a bit juicy so had to go. Bought an 02 reg Civic 1.6 SE Exec two years ago and cannot fault it. Done up to 115k miles now, serviced once a year, never goes wrong (that's the kiss of death now) and does exactly what it says on the tin. Roomy, good visibility, lots of goodies (bum warming seats, good storage, enough electrics but not too many to be costly to repair), economical and RELIABLE. No street cred at all, but you can't have everything. Very good value for money. Buy one.

There are some very good points about the civic from the pov of a parent
    - bags of space in the boot, I could fit my reasonably large pushchair in it along with several bags of shopping and all the assorted crap you carry around when you have very small children
    - cabin is spacious, bags of room in the back for two children in large carseats or one in a large carseat (in the middle) and two on boosters.
    - lovely to drive and comfortable on long distance journeys
    - I love the way it looks, both externally and internally. The curved dash is the COOLEST EVER.

    Bad points
    - parts are expensive
    - mine is a 1.8SE petrol which is ££ to keep in petrol
    - the visibility out the back is SHOCKING, mainly due to the spoiler about a third of the way up the rear windscreen. I've tagged the back of mine no end of times and have had to have two bumper repairs - never had this with other cars I've driven.
    - the spoiler position also means there's no rear windscreen wiper, a pain in the backside when it's rainy. Only the top half of the rear windscreen is heated so you can't see out of the bottom at all if it's cold and your car steams up.
    - When it snows you can't get all the snow from the top of your roof (at 5'6 I'm not tall enough to reach the middle of the roof). Once you're on the road the snow will eventually slide down the back windscreen and stop on the spoiler, meaning you have to stop and clear it or not be able to see at all out of the back. Snow also accumulates on the spoiler if you're driving whilst it's snowing (see above re lack of rear windscreen wiper).
    - If the car's wet and you open the boot door, the water doesn't siphon away down the sides of the door and you get a very wet head.

On the whole I do like my car but when the time comes to change it, I won't be getting another civic.
