"Rust and poor paint ruin a practical car"

I have owned my rusty Dacia Duster 4x4 Ambience for 8 months now and in that time the car has developed a severe corrosion problem.

Further investigation into the matter uncovered that quite a few other owners have had rust break out on their cars too. As time has gone on Dacia have been forced to admit there is an issue and are recalling a number of the affected vehicles to carry out repair in September 2014 although they have yet to release details of what the repair will entail.

The rusting appears to have been caused by poor treatment of the body panels before painting and exacerbated by a scandalously thin layer of paint which has allowed this issue to come to light so quickly. It remains to be seen whether Dacia are capable of preventing the car from rusting from the inside out - I am doubtful.

A number of early cases were resolved by Dacia refunding in full but they now have a blanket policy of not doing this so they will force you to wait to see if the fix is successful.

There have been recent reports of brand new cars in dealerships exhibiting rust in the common areas too so check before you buy!

The rest of the car is pretty good, yes you miss air-con on the lower spec models for a few days per year and the dash is a bit plasticky but it's comfortable, economical, practical and spacious. 1st gear is very low on the 4 wheel drive version to allow for steep off-road terrain.

Details of the rust issue can be found here: http://www.daciaforum.co.uk/forum/topic/706-do-you-have-a-rusty-duster/ or just take a look at the Dacia facebook page to see how owners are being treated.

    Buyer Beware!

    "Fanastic for 3 children"

We went round in circles when baby number 3 arrived, looking at MPVS and cars with 3 rows of seats etc etc. For the same price as a decent second hand MPV (we were looking at Peugeot 5008s and similar) with about 40,000 on the clock, we got a brand new top level Duster but without 4x4. Seats for three children fly across the back - a booster, a 5 point recaro seat and a stage 0 rearfacing baby seat. Fabulous. A car like cars used to be - i.e. without all those fancy electronics that you don't really need, but will happily flash up and tell you the sky is going to fall in if you don;t get to a garage asap. It has the useful electronics - heated wing mirrors, electric windows parking sensors (we added these on) and a decent stereo that bluetooths into your phone. And we have peace of mind as it is under warranty for 5 years. Fab.
The rear bench seat is comfy too so when the children don;t need their seats it will be comfy for them. Very basic fabrics, but a decent spongey seat for sitting in for long journeys.
