Guest Campaigns: April 2019

Here at MNHQ, we think it makes sense to use the not-inconsiderable might of the Mumsnet collective for the greater good. That's why we regularly exchange links and public support with charities and pressure groups in areas Mumsnetters are interested in, such as special needs provision, child poverty, childcare, parenting, breastfeeding, maternity care and relationship support.

World Child Cancer – Give the Gift of Growing Up

Seven-year-old Prapti is one of 300,000 children expected to develop cancer each year around the world. In developed countries like the UK, over 80% of children with cancer will survive but in developing ones like Bangladesh, as few as 10% will survive.

By training more healthcare professionals, providing financial and emotional support to families and empowering nurses to provide better care, we can give more children the Gift of Growing Up.

Support children with cancer by donating before 30th June and your gift will be doubled by the UK government.

MAG – Home Safe Home

Every day, 20 people are killed or injured by landmines and unexploded bombs. Almost half of civilian casualties are children. Thousands of landmines and unexploded bombs lie ready to maim and kill at any moment, often found in and around people’s homes where children live and play.

At MAG, teams of dedicated deminers find and destroy landmines, women like Nesrin, in Lebanon, “We won’t stop, we’ll carry on until the job is done.”

Home should be a safe place for everyone. Please donate today.
Give to our Home Safe Home appeal before 4 July 2019 and all public donations will be doubled by the UK government

TREE AID – She Grows

Mali is not an easy place to be a mother. It is one of the world’s poorest countries. Women depend on the land for survival but deforestation and frequent droughts are making this even harder. With little food to feed their children and no source of income, women are facing a struggle for survival.

You can help TREE AID to support 1,000 women in Mali to grow themselves and their families out of poverty using the power of trees and enterprise. Donate to the She Grows appeal before 30th June and your gift will be doubled by the UK government.

RNLI: Creches for Bangladesh

Earlier this year, the RNLI launched its Creches for Bangladesh appeal to tackle the childhood drowning epidemic in Bangladesh which claims the lives of 40 children every day. The appeal is live until the 28th April and all donations made before this date will be doubled by the UK government. With only a few weeks of the appeal left, we wanted to say thank you for all the donations that we have received so far and urge last minute contributions.

Bangladesh has a drowning rate five times higher than other low- and middle-income countries. Surrounded by 700 rivers and around 5,000 miles of inland waterways, children are always only steps away from danger. Very young children are at most risk between 9am and 1pm when parents are busy working and undertaking chores essential for their children’s survival. When a child has access to a space creche it reduces their chance of drowning by an incredible 82%.

Schools North East – #FundOurFuture

Over the last ten years education funding in England has fallen, in real terms, by 8% and each individual pupil is now being underfunded by an average of £500 annually. This is unsustainable and unacceptable. Children’s education is essential to their, and our, futures.

#FundOurFuture is a campaign asking Government to commit to plugging the £4.2 billion funding gap. We need your help to
present a united front, challenging Government to dedicate the vital funds education needs and deserves. We want the Government to know that our nations education and future is important to all of us.
