What you'll need

- A piece of string or elastic big enough to fit around your child's head
- A pair of scissors
- Daisy mask template

The Wimpy Kid costume

What you'll need

- A piece of string or elastic big enough to fit around your child's head – or a piece of white A2 card
- A pair of scissors
- Black jeans/shorts
- White T-shirt
- Black rucksack
- A slice of cheese (optional)

Tracy Beaker costume

What you'll need

- A red jumper
- Blue trousers or a skirt
- Black curly wig
- Add some round rosy cheeks for true Nick Sharratt-illustrations style

The Very Hungry Caterpillar costume

Time: One hour (plus time for paint to dry)

What you'll need

- The Very Hungry Caterpillar template

For the body:
- Green top and trousers/tights
- Light and dark green paint
- Paintbrush
- A2 cardboard x 2 or use an old box flattened down
- Scissors
- Ruler
- Pencil
- Brown card
- Double-sided tape
- Sticky fixers
- Strong tape e.g. gaffer tape

For the head:
- Red wool beanie hat
- 2 x lilac pipe cleaners
- 2 x pink beads
- Green and yellow card
- Scissors
- Pencil
- Double-sided tape

For the food:
- White card
- Felt pens, oil pastels or crayons
- Scissors
- Pencil

The BFG costume

Time: One hour (plus time for paint to dry)

Difficulty rating: Medium

What you'll need

To make the ears:
- Paper plates
- Pencil
- Masking tape
- Hair band
- Double-sided tape
- Glue
- String
- Scissors
- White, yellow and a little pink paint
- Paintbrush
- BFG ears template

What to wear:

- Light blue top
- Green trousers
- Brown waistcoat or you can make your own with a white T-shirt and some brown clothes dye
- Sandals (if you have them)
