Competition: See your novel in print
Think you've got a novel in you, but despair at the thought of actually getting it published? Stand by: in partnership with renowned literary agency Janklow & Nesbit we're launching a fantastic competition.
Here's how it works
Submit the first 8,000 words of your novel to email@example.com, along with a 500-word outline of the remaining chapters, by 30 January 2015.
Janklow & Nesbit guarantee that every entry will be read by one of their agents.
If you've previously tried and failed to have your work published, you'll know that one enormous stumbling block is simply getting yourself noticed - so this really is an amazing opportunity.
The competition is specifically aimed at unpublished authors - those who are passionate about writing, but are struggling to get their foot on the first rung of the literary ladder - but J&N will accept material from self-published authors too. Submissions will be anonymous to ensure the winner is chosen on merit alone; whether you're a complete unknown or the scion of a celebrated literary dynasty, it's a level playing field.
On the 23 February 2015, we'll announce a six-strong shortlist, with feedback on why each has been chosen. Janklow & Nesbit will mull these manuscripts over, and the overall winner will be announced on Monday 16 March 2015.
The fantastic prize will be the offer of representation by J&N, during which you'll be mentored and supported by one of their experienced agents. They'll help you get your novel into the best possible shape, and use their exhaustive knowledge of the publishing world to make sure it's seen by the right people.
This competition has now closed. The list of shortlisted titles can be found below.
Janklow & Nesbit has offices in London and New York. In business in the US since 1973, the London office opened in 2000, and the company's roster of fiction clients include Danielle Steel, Joan Didion, Tom Wolfe, Anne Rice, Jeffrey Eugenides, Jasper Fforde, Charles Cumming, Elly Griffiths, Xiaolu Guo, M.J. Arlidge, Olivia Laing and Sunjeev Sahota.
Their authors produce everything from highbrow literary fiction to genre blockbusters - there's no-one better placed to help you become a published author.
Janklow & Nesbit said: "We've been so impressed by all the competition entries and the range of ambitious ideas. We've read everything - from romantic comedies and thrillers to historical fiction, YA and sci-fi. It's been incredibly hard choosing the shortlist - in fact we originally were only going to shortlist six, but there were too many great ideas to choose from."
