The Embassy of Cambodia by Zadie Smith
This little gem of a book is an extended version of a story that first appeared in the New Yorker earlier this year.
In just 69 pages, Zadie Smith manages to create an absorbing and moving story about the life of a young woman, Fatou, who has fled the Ivory Coast to make a better life for herself in Willesden, West London, just by the Embassy of Cambodia. Its familiar territory for Zadie Smith but critics are already revering this, claiming it's one of her greatest works.
A perfect stocking filler for Zadie fans.
