Mumsnet Rated Macmillan Book of the Month

We're delighted to announce that Elli Woollard and Benji Davies' The Giant of Jum has been awarded this month's Mumsnet Rated Macmillan Book of the Month. WH Smiths are offering you the chance to buy the book at a discounted rate along with other titles that have been rated this month by a Mumsnet Panel.

"Fee!" he said, and "Fi!" he said, and "Fo!" he said and "Fum!" Look out children, the Giant of Jum is grumpy, hungry and searching for a tasty snack. And the tastiest snack is a boy called Jack! But Jack and his friends don't see a scary giant, they see a man who can fetch lost balls and rescue cats from trees! Perhaps this giant is softer than he seems...

What Mumsnetters said

My son took this book into nursery for the first time to share with the other children. His view was that he'd enjoyed this book so much, why shouldn't everyone else be able to!

It had just the right balance of danger and peril, beautifully drawn illustrations and singalong repetitive rhymes to grab his attention and hold it.

My 3 year old loved reading this book. Colourful, lovely pictures and rhyming. A warming adaptation of the usual jack and the beanstalk.

Lion Practice by Emma Carlisle

Laura loves to practise. She's been a kangaroo, a parrot and a crocodile - but nothing beats lion practice! It's fun to leap, and run and roar really loud, isn't it? Laura's patient parents aren't so sure.

A warm, funny and reassuring book, which celebrates the joy of imaginative play and the importance of patience and family love. A lively debut from a brand new picture book talent.

Mumsnetters Say:

What a great book! I read this to my 2yr old and 5 yr old daughter (with my 7yr son pretending he wasn't listening). All 3 kids loved it. The illustrations were lovely too.

How Mumsnet Rated works

Each month 150 members of the Mumsnet panel are sent one of three books to read with their child aged two to six: each book is read and reviewed by 50 MNers. Once they have read the book, the reviewers complete a survey form to rate the book on a scale of 1 to 10 where 10 is absolutely brilliant and 1 is terrible. The book with the highest average score wins the Mumsnet Rated badge.
