Shared Parental Leave - what do you think?
Did you know parents now have greater flexibility in how they share the care of their child in the first year after birth, as new regulations regarding Shared Parental Leave (SPL) come into force?
The new rules, which apply to working couples with babies due or children matched or placed for adoption on or after 5 April 2015, will allow parents to share leave in a way that suits them best.
We've been asked by the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills to find out what our Mumsnet Bloggers think about this new policy for parents.
The team there say "From April 2015, parents will have greater choice over how they share time off work to care for their child. Shared Parental Leave allows working couples to share up to 50 weeks of leave and 37 weeks of pay in a way that suits their work and family needs. For example, parents can take time off together or they can tag team, stopping and starting leave and returning to work in between if they wish. You can check your eligibility and how much pay you can get here. We'd love to know what bloggers think about this and how you'd use it for your family."
So, what we'd like you to do is have a gander of the government's information, watch the video, write about what you think of the scheme on your blog, and add it to our linky below. You can write about anything - whether or not you would (or would have, if your little'uns are all grown up now) take it up and why, what impact you think it might have, or even how you might improve it.
What in it for you? As well as finding out more about Shared Parental Leave and whether your family can benefit, we'll add your name to a prize draw, and one contributing MN blogger will win a £300 voucher for the store of their choice! Good, eh? So, what are you waiting for? Post away.
