Mumsnet Bloggers Easter posts picks

Easter

The Easter weekend is almost upon us, and with bonnet parades, egg hunts and chocolate-covered-everything, it's a crafter-cum-cook's paradise. This was ably demonstrated by all the brilliant posts and beautiful photography on our Easter linky - thank you so much to everyone who shared their seasonal treats.

We've rounded up our pick of the best for you to enjoy!

FOOD

Orange and chocolate hot cross bun loaf by Super Golden Bakes

How do you improve on the perfection that is a hot cross bun? Add chocolate! And make it in a loaf tin, so you can slice and toast it for the most decadent of breakfasts.

cupcakes

Extremely chocolatey Easter cupcakes by Julie's Family Kitchen

As we all know, the true lesson of the Easter story <ahem> is that chocolate makes the world go round - and these cupcakes certainly fulfil the brief. Think chocolate sponge, topped with chocolate buttercream and decorated with chocolate Flakes and mini eggs. All in the spirit of excess, eh?

hazelnut cake

Hazelnut Easter egg cake by Recipes from a Pantry

Another cake that isn't shy on the chocolate front, this show-stopping sponge will keep the grown-ups happy, too. To avoid the cloying sweetness that can come with an abundance of icing, this recipe uses honey whipped cream instead. Delicious.

creme egg

Cadbury's Creme Egg-inspired mousse by Dragons and Fairy Dust

If your kids are Creme Egg-crazy, this mousse will be right up their street - and it's something a little different. You'll need a bit of tempering prowess to fashion the chocolate baskets, which are then filled with a vanilla mousse and a custard yolk.

CRAFTS

Decorated eggs by Three Sons Later

Dyeing and decorating eggs is a German tradition, but the materials needed are easy to find wherever you are. Once dyed, you can experiment with paint, pens and stickers to jazz them up - the bird stamps used here make for a delicate and sophisticated centrepiece.

bunny bag

This fun bag is a great, simple craft to do with your kids - or you can make it alone and fill it with goodies for them to ransack on Easter Sunday! There's even a link to a template to make your life easier - use any scraps of wrapping paper you have around.

garland

Easter garland by Marmalade Pie

Garlands and wreaths aren't just for Christmas, y'know. This beautiful Spring version uses a paper plate as its base, then get sticking on flowers, pompoms, feathers and any other Easter-themed decorations you have to hand.

bonnet

Thought Easter bonnets were all nylon chicks and plastic daffodils? Think again. This fluffy creation is absolutely adorable, as well as being super-simple to make.

wool balls

Wool balls by Little Dorothy Makes

If you like getting messy, this is the craft for you. These wool balls use a technique similar to paper mache to stunning effect - string them into a garland or hang them on their own, with chicks inside for an Easter twist.

This is only a taster of the egg-cellent posts we had over on the Easter linky - do browse the rest of them below for inspiration, and have a very happy Easter!
