Most unpopular baby names

Choosing baby name

It's perfectly natural not to want your future offspring to be the eighth Olivia or Oliver in their class. To help you choose the baby name road less travelled, here are 20 of the least popular names for babies in 2016

Bad luck if you'd just got back from making your little one's name official at the registry office – but if you've yet to give birth, it's not too late to swerve a name that screams 2017.

Expectant parents everywhere were poring over the ONS website last week, anxious to discover where the name they'd chosen for their yet-to-be-born little one sat on the list of most popular names of 2017.

Here are twenty of the least common names of 2017 – each of them was registered only three times last year which we reckon is as close to being unique as possible. (We reason that any fewer than that should warn you off – and any more could suddenly blossom into one of the top names of 2019.)

If none of these takes your fancy and you're still struggling to choose a name for your baby, remember there's always the Mumsnet baby name finder to help you sort the wheat from the chaff.

In the meantime, we present:
