Is it normal to ache so much afterwards?

I’d say I’m reasonably fit. I was going to the gym 4 times a week and can run easily 5km and do HIIT workouts regularly.

No we are stuck at home I do a HIIT in the morning, run/walk in the afternoon and have done a online yoga video for the last few evenings.

I am never sore after exercise but after the yoga I ache all over it’s so strange.

I feel like I’ve pulled something in my groin and it hurts to walk up stairs. That’s probably from being too enthusiastic about the stretches but in general I can feel a general aching in my body like DOMs but as I exercise already I don’t know why.

Is this normal?

I think with yoga it is important to go into the pose slowly and come out of the pose the way you went in.
It is very easy in yoga to hurt yourself as people tend to think it's just bending and stretching.
Hip areas are difficult for a lot of people and can be painful.
As they say in yoga there is good pain and bad pain.

I've always been taught find your edge where it's uncomfortable but not painful. If you are pushing yourself you need to back off. Yoga doesn't cause injury practicing incorrectly causes issues.

The advice I give my students is to be led by the breath. If your breath becomes disturbed, then back off a bit during practice.

It is normal to ache a bit afterwards if you're new to it, and the best way to counter that is some more gentle stretches.

Enjoy it - yoga is transformational!

A little aching makes sense but I do think pushing too hard to make a shape can over-strain the muscles.

@Kmxxx14
Do you recommend any particular online HIIT classes?

I’ve been practicing for 9 years and `I still ache every day! Just don’t overdo it and hurt yourself. You want to be still doing it until you are 80 plus. There is no goal.. there is no end. It will hopefully be with you for life in some form or another. 😄

Yes, it's a totally different type of exercise! Great for supporting flexibility and strength for running etc but I always find it hard!

I ached for the first week or so when I started a 30 day yoga plan. I found I was using so many different muscles in just one session.

I love it though, it's given me a new lease of life!
