Hi, there is a new yin yoga class starting locally and I was wondering if it’s worth a try? I have dipped in and out of hatha lessons but haven’t managed to go regularly yet because of the time of class. I understand Yin is quite a gentle type of yoga?

I do my yin classes at home, you just need a bolster, a blanket and maybe a block. There are plenty of online classes.

With yin yoga you stay in the pose longer.Three minutes can seem a long but you need to relax and get comfortable and remember to breathe . You will feel the benefit though afterwards.
I think it's good to try different yoga classes and yoga teachers and you will find out what you like and enjoy. If it's not for you don't go back .

Yin yoga is very different to other styles but highly complentary. You are trying to work the connective tissue and fascia so it's slow long releases. It's mainly mat based and you hold each pose for 3-5 minutes. It's a totally different challenge learning to quieten your mind! You use lots of props and supports.

My family run a yoga business and we have loads of runners and athletes at yin - it's very popular

I find Yin really relaxing, it helps me to calm my mind when it's busy.

Does anyone know of any good yin videos online?

I love yin. It's not exercise, though: it won't raise your heart rate or build active strength. I do it after I've been for a run or bike ride, it's a great way to stretch out and relax.

@itssquidstella I agree, I think of it more like getting a massage or meditating Smile

I also love the yin yoga with kassandra.
She has a book which shows all the poses and some easy to follow sequences
