Yoga

Is yoga for me?

I tried yoga a few times over 20 years ago and found it as boring as hell as all we did was lie on the floor and it has put me off ever since.

However am considering giving it another go for no other reason than there is an evening class run at my DCs school, and having met the instructor, she is so bubbly. She runs Hatha and Sivananda yoga classes

As my username suggests, I am overweight. - I am looking to lose weight, tone up etc. I hate the gym and have no co ordination

Any advice?

There are many different kinds of yoga and I'm sure that you can find one that works for you. I would recommend you to try any and all classes & instructors you can find, as they will all be different in style and interpretation. Yes, some classes can be mostly about breathing & lying on the floor but there are also some very dynamic ones like Vinyasa Flow and Ashtanga which you might not be able to keep up with if you haven't done any sports in a while.

Haha would be a good class to start with. If you find it too gentle/easy, you can then go on to the more dynamic forms of yoga. YouTube is a great resource, if you want to check out what different yoga classes focus on.

Yes absolutely yoga can be for you. You can work to your own level and do what feels right for you. A good teacher will be able to give different options or modifications of the various poses to suit the different abilities of the people in the class.

Your co-ordination or lack of doesn't matter, just do what you can. If you keep going to classes, you will find your co-ordination, strength, balance, etc improving and you will be able do more in the poses.
