working from home/hiring a room

I am considering re-training in some form of massage or injury therapy. Does anyone know if it's common practice to hire a room somewhere? I can't really do it from home, and don't want to work for someone else. I have often wondered where people practice this kind of thing – I mean sports injury therapy, the Alexander technique, holistic massage, etc...Is it common to hire somewhere?

I have also considered doing some private tutoring. I have an MA in literature, so thought I could maybe earn some extra cash tutoring kids at GCSE. Again, is it common to hire a room to do this ?Obviously sometimes you would go to the child's house, but I guess that isn't always possible.

My masseur rents two rooms in a Georgian office block in the centre of our town, a treatment room and a reception/office room.

She's booked solid with office workers and bad backs. they like the easy access from their offices.

Yes, renting a room either by the day or the week. So for example, I know some that stay in the same place, but others do a couple of days in our town then one or two in the next town over. Many many places rent out rooms - think Osteopaths, Salons, Chiropractors, Podiatrists, Dentists and even some doctors' surgeries! There are 'by the hour', 'by the day', 'by the week', or exclusive rent options. Good luck!
