Is this unreasonable regarding time off for appointment

I work 3 days a week, usually Tues, Wed, Thurs. I have a hospital appointment next Thursday and will need the whole day off due to the distance the hospital is and the length of appointment.
I asked my manager if I could book time off but he told me I would need to work the day back. I didn't think I would be up to working Friday so asked if I could work Monday but he insists I work Friday.
Is my manager been unreasonable?

He is being unreasonable, it depends on your contract but you have to be allowed sick leave / time off for hospital appointments. The fact he is instisting which day sounds wring to me. You don't get to choose these times (unlike say a dentist appointment). Is your company big enough to have HR? Does it have a sickness and absence policy.

Where I work we allow 4 hours on any given day for appointments, as per a set policy.

Additional time we have to make up or take as a/l but if we make it up we’d not be told which of our normal part time days off we’d have to work, I think that is unreasonable.

I’d just tell him you’re having the time off because of hospital appointment and would be prefer you took the time off as a/l, as per sick/appointment policy if you have one like ours, or else you can make it up on the Monday. Rinse and repeat. But I’m bloody minded like that 🤣

We allow people to make up time. I wonder why they are insisting on the Friday rather than the Monday, is there a deadline or something - did they tell you? It seems a bit controlling.
