Ok, so today was my last day at work. I told my manager about 4 weeks ago and handed in my formal notice. She knew I'd be leaving today but I didn't hear a peep from her, not even an email or a call to say "good luck in the new job" or anything like that. I've worked for her for the last 2 years and have never caused any trouble or been unreliable, off sick or anything else that managers might frown upon.
AIBU to have expected my manager to at least acknowledge my last day and say some kind of goodbye? She works across a few different sites, so isn't in the office much and I get that she's busy.. but just seems a bit mean not to have acknowledged the day. My other colleagues all remembered and wished me well. Am I being over sensitive?

Nothing you can do except metaphorically stick two fingers up.
I left a job after 7 years and actually cried (in kind of a good way) writing the letter. I got back a one line email (it was a job I did just for 10 weeks every year but it was full on 24/7 residential work) saying "thanks for letting us know, all the best".

Don't look back, and good luck! Flowers

Slash her tyres.

No, seriously recognise you've made a good decision to leave and wishing you all the best in your next adventure Star

You know from her attitude that you made the right choice to leave.

She may have a lot on her plate and genuinely forgot, esp if you haven't seen her much since you handed your notice in

One of the two directors left my company last year. Think a business of around seventy people. He had been there maybe ten years. Not a single word was said to him or by him. I would have expected the whole company to have met in the canteen and wished him farewell. Nothing. He also didn't even send round an email

We did however have an agency worker who'd been there about eight years leave and he got a presentation etc in the canteen with the whole company coming down especially

Thanks for the replies 💐. Still no contact from my manager, should I drop her a message or email to say thanks for having me and goodbye? A friend suggested that because I've not heard from my manager then I should contact her to say bye but I'm not so sure. Feel a bit awkward. WWYD?

I would leave it
She might be dealing with her own issues. but yes it doesn't take two minutes to say how are you or goodbye.

Was she at a different site? Does she manage a big team?

Probably just forgot.

And it's only 2pm. Have you finished yet?

I would email to say goodbye, then you've done the right thing and that gives her a chance to respond.

Don’t worry , one of my old managers got called by the wrong name when she had her leaving speech by her manager. It wasn’t even a mistake, she thought that was her name! Nothing like feeling appreciated.

@Siennabear that's awful!

Some managers really have zero interpersonal skills but you'd think knowing someone's (correct) name was simple.

Personally you have now left. Move on, time to forget this instead of dwelling. Good luck.

I worked somewhere for decades and when I emailed HR to say I was resigning I got an email back just saying "OK."

My partner left his work today, he worked really hard. He made a great effort to pass on information to his successor, has agreed to be consulted if needed.

Not a peep from anyone about him leaving.

I woudn't bother getting in touch with the manager.

Don’t email her. She’s an uncaring, ignorant twat. Don’t waste anymore of your time thinking about her. You’ve quit for a reason. Onwards and upwards 👍🏻
