Let's try this again. I typed everything then lost it ðŸ˜
So I am almost 32, have a DS (8), DD (7), DP and 2 DSS's (7&5). Never had a 'proper career' so to speak, worked in care from age 18 and besides some cleaning jobs that's all I've ever known. Care work isn't overly family friendly due to the long unsociable hours you can do. So late last year I decided to follow a dream I'd had for a while and retrain to be a teaching assistant. I love working with children and the hours would be ideal for fitting around my family. So I began a course and found myself a placement in a local school, which was required to be able to pass. I started the placement in February and loved every second of it, then of course lockdown happened. I spoke to the head teacher before the school closed and we both said we'd be in touch about returning in the weeks/months to come. Needless to say I don't think any of us thought it would be 6 months before that could happen I've emailed them about coming back but haven't heard anything back, and frankly I'm not surprised, they must be up to their eyeballs in risk assessments and new procedures. I of course don't want to be a burden or be in the way of the school/classroom operating safely, but I now don't know what to do. Should I keep emailing? Should I give up the dream for now whilst schools figure out how to function in this new way of life? Should I give it up entirely and look at something different, as schools may never go back to how they were? I hate the thought of hassling the school when they will already have so much going on, and I'm wondering if the job will be the same or even be required now that everything's changed. What would you do?
