I'm not doing well.. confidence knocked!

CanIBeGingerSpice · 22/08/2020 12:32

I joined Scentsy after thinking about it for a long time. A couple of other ladies started doing it locally and I wish I had started it first. I've been doing it for a month and I'm not getting many sales at all.
I thought it would simply be taking orders and processing them, but I was encouraged to do 'offers' and 'specials', which I didn't realise was by using my product credit once I had got enough sales. I've taken orders at this 'special' price for 3 people but because I haven't had enough sales for my product credit to kick in, I have to either tell them I can't do it for that price or foot the extra cost out of my own pocket. The other 2 girls doing it seem to be doing really well, and working all these special prices that have people jumping at them. I can't even get enough to do an order. If I'd have known you had to use your own credit and almost manipulate the system to get money off I wouldn't have bothered. It's not fair on people like me that can't get the volume of orders to do it.
Its knocked my confidence as I just feel like I've been crap at most jobs I have done or haven't stuck to them. It just feels like another thing to add to my failure list!

You haven't done anything wrong. This is MLM..it was doomed from the start. I would cut your losses.

Nothing you do will help. It's an MLM and nearly everyone loses money on them. Don't feel ashamed about quitting. Better to get out now than when you're broke.

It's an mlm. The other sellers will be "faking it till they make it".

Run! MLMs, direct sales, network marketing (or whatever you want to call it) is a scam.

As the last poster said.

The only ones who profit are the ones at the top.

Cut your losses.

There are MN threads about MLMs (Multi Level Marketing scams) which are barely legal pyramid schemes.

Scentsy is one, FM scents, Forever Living, Avon, Body Shop, Vie, Ann Summers, Tupperware - all scams

Just pack it in, dust yourself off and look for something that isn't a con.

What exactly is an MLM? (Sorry for sounding so naive)
Every time I say I’m struggling I just get told I need ‘to build up more excitement’ or to get samples (which I need to pay for myself)
even my mum said she’ll order from the other girls as they’re doing orders sooner than I am!
If I jack it in though should I still go through with the orders I’ve taken? Or just let them know I’m not going ahead and give it up? I haven’t taken money from anyone yet.
I just don’t know why someone in the same village is doing so well, and the only reactions I’m getting on my Facebook group are angry ones! Sad

You were never going to do well if there is already an established seller in your village.
Your Mum is very loyalHmm.
It's all a bit of a scam.
Take no money and tell those interested you've decided not to go ahead.

You have done nothing wrong. In MLM, 99% of people lose money.
I would bet my house the other people are not doing well, they have been told to 'fake it til they make it'.
I would tell the people you have taken orders from that you have seen it for the scam it is and you are not putting the orders through now.
Remember, it is not your fault. The system is there to make you fail.
Good luck.

It’s a scam essentially - it’s never going to work - you have been duped . Cut your losses and steer well clear!!!

It's not a job, it's a scam. I'd cancel the orders you've taken and explain that the system means you'd have to pay towards their orders, it's not going to work for you and refer them to the other person in your village to order what they want.

Cut your losses, all these MLM companies are scams which prey on women. Don't feel like you've failed, I think 99% of people who get involved in these schemes lose money. It's designed to get money out of you.

I have a work colleague who started this a few years ago, she still does it and spends an incredible amount of time promoting it, attending events and delivering orders, she works at it non stop.

She told me she was out of pocket big time when she started, she bought a lot of products for herself to make up her orders and was under a lot of pressure to sell more. She was in a catch 22 situation and stood to lose a lot if she gave up.

She is now further up the chain and seems to have no qualms about recruiting people knowing they will struggle. Her Facebook is full of positivity and good times .

Her lifestyle hasn't improved and and she still has her full time job. The financial rewards don't seem to reflect the amount of effort that she puts in. But she wont ever reveal how much profit she has actually earned over the last couple of years.

Does anyone on an MLM ever reveal their earnings? I've never been involved but I do wonder what riches new recruits are promised.

I would just cut your losses and refer the people who have ordered to the others and they can order from them.

Cancel. Cut your losses. It’s doomed to fail, cost you more money than you’ll make and piss off all your friends and family.

People on local FB groups are angry at being bombarded with this shite constantly. Do a bit of research on MLM and how it works.

It’s not a job, it’s a scam. It’s an MLM and >95% of people lose money on them, some lose thousands. This is not a failure on your part. Get out, now, and please read this: ellebeaublog.com/poonique/

Also, look at this income disclosure statement for Scentsy UK from 2018, the most recent I can find: imagelive.scentsy.com/cmsimages/files/uk-en%20resource%20library/scentsy%20documents/r2-uken-2019-incomedisclosurestatement-final-update.pdf Note that those figures are commissions, not profit. Look how low those annual figures are, then remember you’d have to take off your costs! The failure is to yours, you’ve been set up.

If you're struggling to get orders now in the beginning then it's only going to get worse, where do you think your new customers are going to come from?

Pass the orders to the person already doing it and step away. If you continue now you're just going to lose even more time and money trying to prove that it can be a success

MLM depends on new people signing up and investing their own money, even people who are naturally amazing sales people don't do MLM

Read the Ellebeau blog linked above. I’m sick of reporting mlm peddlers on Facebook groups. You have a limited customer base and the stuff is actually overpriced. You are being duped. Walk away now.

@CanIBeGingerSpice. Have a read of //www.mlmtruth.org and on BBC iPlayer have a search for The Secrets of the Multilevel Millionaires. I have been watching the fallout from This “industry” for years; it’s a coercive Cult-like scam and more than 99% of people who sign up lose money. It is a recruiting device not a product selling business. If you get out now you’ll lose less than your friends who stay in.
