Work

Hate my job and need advice

I am almost 3 months pregnant and literally am very depressed in my job. I need my maternity leave and desperately need to be earning money as partner and i live in a tiny 1 bed flat so desperately saving money for a house.

I work in a very busy call centre and can no longer bare speaking to the callers. Could be hormones but tbh i havnt enjoyed the job for a long time. I only work part time so 3 days a week (as im a student as well) but this job is seriously affecting mental health. I dont really have any friends in work because weve recently all been moved around and because of covid a lot of people are still working from home.

I cry on the way to work and in work and on my way home. I dont know what to do. I dont know if i can quit and claim benefits? Can anybody advise me on what i may be entitled to?

Hi, so sorry to hear about this. Here are some useful links, entitled to is a great calculator for general benefits. Depending on a number of factors, you could potentially also be entitled to maternity allowance if you meet the criteria, so it would be worth looking up how long you need to remain in your job to meet those.

Also, it does sound like your mental health is really suffering - have you sought advice and help from your GP? It really would be worth talking to them and perhaps asking for a sick note to have a little break from work to recouperate a bit, or if you don't want to do that, can you take some annual leave? It really can't be good for you/baby to be in floods of tears all day every day... hope you get it sorted!

Thank you both.... i have already been signed off for 3 weeks and had my first day back on monday.. back in tomorrow 😣.. i have spoken to dr who wasnt very helpful, just daid probably hormones u shoukdnt take tablets as your pregnant (which i know is wrong) and basically get over it. Sooke to midwife, she said see how you feel and can get some therapy sorted if i dont feel aby better. I have had issues with mental health on and off for the last 7 years and been on all sorts of tablets. Id rather not go back on and definitly feel that not having to do this job will help me massively. I spome to JR today who told me i can use holidays to start maternity early (which will be November) meaning i have around 35 shifts left 😣 not too bad i suppose but im wondering if i can hold on xx
