Anybody work in research?

Wondering if anybody in MN universe works in research and, if so, how did it come about? What particular industry are you in? What qualifications do you have?

I have a background in teaching/education and curriculum but never finished my English degree. Am open to undertaking study if it could open up a career in research.

In all my jobs, I have found I am good at researching and creating reports, plus, I really genuinely enjoy it!

I have a technical role in medical research, in higher ed. I have a BSc in Biochemistry and had 10 years scientific experience before getting a basic technician role in research. Most of our roles require a PhD. Mine doesn't but I've had to work twice as hard to get where I am. I did retrain as a teacher but decided I'd rather earn significantly less in a role I loved (wet lab work).

What sort of research to you want to do? What are you hoping to get out of it? Research roles in higher ed are poorly paid with fixed term, unstable contracts but require lots of qualifications and experience.

Wow @barberous you have an amazing CV! I would need to start again at university to have a job at your level. Thank you for all the details.

The link below is what I was looking at but with something in Further Ed research really. I love development but I guess there are a few types of research roles on different academic tiers. I have qualifications in child psychology and have worked ar behaviour schools but would need to plump up my academics a lot!

If this job is something you're interested in then you definitely apply. This seems like a research and development role, which is very different to the type of research I'm involved in.

It's worth looking at different roles that you might be interested in and looking at the qualifications, experience and skills required. Most qualification requirements will be the minimum.
