Job Application - Help understanding competency wording

Hi

I was wondering if anyone could help me understand some very cooperate competency wording to make sure I am on the right track with my application.

I'm ready to progress to the next grade from the feedback I have had from my manager, however when applying I keep just missing getting an interview or a job. My dream role has now just been advertised and talking informally to the hiring manger I have the background and skills they are looking for.

The jobs are within Civil Service so its all based of a scoring system and mostly an my answers to the competency questions in STAR format. I want to give it my all and make sure I understand whats required and my examples meet them.

The two competencies I'm not 100 sure of is:

"Handle data responsibly, understand your role in good governance, and comply with delegations, policies and procedure."

"Ability to manage fast paced change and delivering results in a dynamic environment."

Could any one translate them into plain English for me and advise what type of examples would meet the competencies.

Thanks for any help.

The first one just means making sure you follow any process for information (especially on individuals) you process or use - inputting/analysing so you don't compromise someone's personal info or accidentally share something you shouldn't. So, understanding subject access requests, keeping data for how long, storing it etc in line with how they want you to (policies and processes) and then understanding where you fit in how this happens - so there will be a data processing manager (or whatever title) and different roles will be responsible for different things. Like you might have to use a password and lock your screen and your manager might have to enforce a clear desk policy.

Did you get any feedback from the jobs you missed out on before which may indicate if you had misunderstood what was wanted or it you just didn’t have the best examples, or other applicants just happened to be better, or someone’s name was already in mind for that job

@Noeuf - thanks for detailed explication that has really helped and given me a couple of ideas for examples!

@Elieza - I got some positive feedback for some I applied for saying my application was good and got on reserve list, but there was just candidates who had more experience/technical expertise they where looking for. On those ones I really understood the wording as they where alot more clear and was really happy with examples I gave.

Unfortunately with the roles where I was not 100% on what the competency wanted are the ones I didn't get feedback for even though I requested it.

These are my first times trying for higher level grades so just trying to learn as much as I can and get jist of it.

Good luck op it's really hard going for a new job. Governance is just the management of the organisations responsibilities and duties - the framework for roles to support complying with legislation etc. Think of governors of a school?

The other one is how you manage in a role where the information you are working with may change or deadlines bright forward or other work take priority.
