Work

Furloughed, just received my pay. Can anyone tell me if this is correct?

I was placed on furlough and just received my pay and payslip for the month of April. My gross monthly income is £1776.67. I was paid £1,150.72 with a gross salary adjustment of £485.62. This is not 80%. Before I question this with HR, does this seem correct to you? I worked out on the government website that with the government grant I should receive about £1269 for April. Thanks in advance Smile

Don't know if it would account for all of it but as far as I'm aware we're paying tax, ni and pension contributions on furlough, did you factor those in too?

@Wheresthebiffer2
Wow no need for that, don't be so bitter.

@Unworthie yes I did, it says that with the salary adjustment, my gross 80% income is £1291.05 and then tax and NI deducted from that figure.

Oh no @Wheresthebiffer2, sorry about that. Wish I was in a position to share with you Sad but yes I think I might question it and hopefully they can give me a good reason.

Do you not pay into a pension?

Report
terri65 · 27/04/2020 12:33

@moveandmove yes, I pay every month. On this payslip I can see that £30 only was deducted for pension on top of the salary adjustment.

@terri65
Ah ok, that doesn't sound right then. Definitely question it because it might just be a mistake or miscalculation.
Good luck.

Were your previous two pays lower for any reason?

Report
terri65 · 27/04/2020 12:40

@Unworthie thank you!!

@Moltenpink March pay was not as there was some overtime added on, Feb pay was a little lower as I had a sick day or 2 when my daughter was poorly. My gross salary is always the £1776.67 followed by salary adjustments such as O/T or sick days, etc. Which tax and NI are then deducted from.

If your pay varies (because you are on a zero hours contract or flexible working contract, for example), the 80 per cent limit will be applied to the same month’s earnings from a previous year, the average monthly earnings for the 2019/20 tax year or an average of their monthly earnings since they started work – whichever is highest.

@Wheresthebiffer2 don't be so bitter!! I'm guessing you have gone through your entire life not questioning anomalies on your pay? Confused

It doesnt seem right, I'd get in touch with payroll, your gross pay should be 80% of your normal pay.

Morechocmorechoc · 27/04/2020 13:44

Was your salary 1438 last march? Or is your average that for the 19/20 tax year. If the answer is yes to either of those then it is correct

Sorry I meant last april

@gatsbylove hi, I'm neither on Zero hours or flexible working contract. My contract is £21,320pa. I am however entitled to overtime pay and if I'm off sick, this is reflected on my payslip as a salary deduction or addition or as they call it 'salary adjustment' but my gross pay is always the £1776, never different.

@happinessischocolate I queried and got sent a breakdown which makes absolutely no sense. It says for this period I will be receiving £1,291.05 gross and future furlough periods £1,421.34 gross(which is the correct amount and the amount I calculated on the government website I should get for this month). Makes no sense as to why this period is different since i was placed on furlough on 21st March. Any idea why?

@Morechocmorechoc hi there, I've worked it out and the figure given by you doesn't seem correct for either option. Just so confused!

What date do you get paid on every month, 27th?

@Cityonlockdown hi yes, that's correct.

If you are paid for the whole month then you would have been given full pay for Match possibly? but in fact we’re furloughed for two weeks, or however long it was from the 21st. So this could include an adjustment for those two weeks, then back to what you anticipate it is next month

You are lucky you have been paid. We're normally paid on 25th (or nearest Friday if a weekend) and we haven't had a thing, no contact from company to say it will be late. I assumed if we were furloughed we would be paid as normal but at 80%, but it seems that isn't the case...

ALovelyBitOfSquirrel · 27/04/2020 14:13

I can't tell you if it's correct, but I can tell you that it is £1,150.72 more income than I am getting this month. Go ahead and quibble that £100 with your HR dept, I'm sure you deserve it.

Hmm

Did you receive full pay in March? If you were furloughed in March they have deducted that from your wage in April although they should make it visible as an overpayment or something on your payslips

@Chloemol that makes more sense actually. I might ask them if that's the case.

@WanderingMilly Really? Have you tried to contact them? Do they not realise that people have bills to pay?

@singymummy yes I was paid in full for the period of March. I will bring it up and ask them if that's the case. They've never been particularly clear on their payslips!

Is the £1776 with overtime? My last role I was on £22k / annum and didn’t take that much home a month.

Report
terri65 · 27/04/2020 14:48

@HaddawayAndShite hi, it's £1776 gross so not take home pay. And it's my standard salary plus any overtime and minus sick days if I've had any. I think my take home pay is about £1,450 roughly.
