Work

To become an AVON rep?

So I'm currently on mat leave with my second child, going back to work full time in May. First DD has just turned 3 and started in nursery (with 30hrs funding). DH works a shift pattern which does include some enhancements/bonuses however money is still a little bit tight! I can use my holiday entitlement when I go back to work to help cover some childcare pickups however when this runs out (in probably around 6 months time) I will need to drop my working hours slightly to around 30 hours per week.

SO to get to the point! I'm looking at ways of making some extra cash each month to help with the shortfall in my wages, needs to be evening work that I can do from home as DH works most evenings, and so I thought of becoming an AVON rep. What to people think? Is it worth it? Too much work on top of full time employment/two kids/general running of house etc? Will it ACTUALLY earn me some extra cash? Thanks

Everyone I know who’s
Done avon has earned nothing. It’s a fad. Just like all the others.

It's basically an MLM. It's very hard to earn money from it, if not impossible.

You have to sell at least £75 a month to qualify for anything and I just can’t do that! I’ve tried but my only customer has been me!

I did it years ago, earned nothing. In fact was even worse off from buying things for myself!

The friends I have who have sold Avon have made no money from it I'm afraid.

I've previously done Avon and another MLM company (forever living) I am very much now in the anti MLM camp after forever living and losing money.

HOWEVER I did earn a bit of cash from Avon because I recruited a team, hit their targets and worked over the Christmas period. people can order a lot but you have to be regular, consistent and available. Its hard work knocking on doors for very little return. Unless you put your all into recruiting/team building etc. (Lots of hours again on the end of the phone for other reps for advise etc.) it you won't earn you near minimum wage.

Personally I would not return to any MLM now and would rather have a part time job in the evenings.

I didn’t know the reps earn next to nothing.
However I won’t buy from them anymore because they test products on animals.

Nope wouldn't bother, I was in a similar situ when I did it a few years ago. Trailing the streets posting catalogues was the worst!

If you have a big circle of contacts it could possibly work. There a lady at school who now sells Avon in the playground and seems to pick up quite a few orders.

I wouldn't do it .

I did it and I found it really hard delivering the books and no one leaving them out when I went back.

The people I know now who do Avon seem to have regular customers and do a lot of it through Facebook rather than tramping the streets I think.
It seems like a better way.
Ask on local selling pages and things if anyone is interested in a book.

Search YouTube John Oliver multi level marketing. It says it all. MLM is a horrible con and preys on female workers.

Hmm pretty unanimous! Thanks guys, pretty much what I thought in terms of little return for a lot of work. Back to the drawing board...!

You won't earn anything from it. You will piss all your friends off by constantly going on about your "bizness" and turn into one of those people who post constantly on social media about being a boss babe.

Avon in the past was a completely different company, now it's just another MLM.

I don't think this method of selling works like it perhaps did 20 or 30 years ago.

With the internet, everything is available at the click of a button anyway.

I sell makeup samples on ebay and make a few bob every month, for very little effort.

You won’t earn anything with Avon. There are likely to be about 5 other Avon reps in your road already which means no local customers for you. So you’d be relying on friends and family to buy enough every month to pay you a wage. They will buy the first month. Because you’ll have a party and they’ll feel obliged but after that they won’t. So you might make something the first month. After that. Zilch. I have a couple of friends who got caught up in this. Avon actually charge them a fee when they don’t put in any orders so they have to order stuff themselves to avoid that. (Which defeats the purpose!)

When I was little, there was one Avon lady in our village and she did pretty well - she was a part-time dinnerlady at the local primary and I think the majority of her customers were mums. Nowadays, it seems like every other mum in the area does it.

I have a friend whose mum makes a living solely through Avon, she's the second top rep in our city, and her life revolves around it - you've got to be highly invested. I did it for about 9 months, but like PPs I HATED trudging the streets in the winter/rain, didn't get many orders, had too many fussy customers who wanted to do exchanges/returns all the time, and ended up buying a lot of shit I didn't need just to get to commission level. I swear I've still got about 20 bottles of shower gel, and it was over 3 years ago Hmm

It's an almighty ball ache. People are sick of seeing MLM shite all over their newsfeeds now, and although as a company Avon have been around forever, it's just not how it used to be.
