At my office we use messenger and I’m pretty sure it’s used to monitor people’s movements...when they are working, on and offline etc. It’s a bit disconcerting. My manger tabs when people are back online etc...anyone else had this? I don’t like that level of scrutiny ...Hmm

We have that, my status is set to 'away' all the time and then they can't track anything

I have mine set to away but if I go offline it changes to offline.
I work in community so I am in and out anyway.

Most companies will be able to check what you've been doing if they want to, either by auditing systems you use, or they'll have a keystroke app so they can see exactly what you've been typing or clicking. It'll come under lawful business monitoring legislation. Whether they utilise it or not depends on the business. From my experience the only people who are checked upon are the ones with reputations for slacking.., and if they are slacking that's not fair on people who come to work and do their job. Doesn't mean people are expected to be slaves to their computers, but people do need to be held accountable.

I’m new but more and more is coming to light...if you are away from your desk and making a drink or chatting to a colleague that time should be added on to your working day...that’s her views...the more o hear and see I want to run for the hills!!

Run run run she's a head case. You should be able to have a drink and network.

Absolutely...that’s part and parcel of work...I’ve never ever heard anything like this before. I’m deeply uncomfortable with it. She even said if people aren’t fully busy every day then they are in effect defrauding the company and should take unpaid leave for the down time...🤔
