Hi op, unfortunately it seems like alot of care jobs are so poorly funded with staffing so poor that care is affected.

In my job, you spend all night running around changing people then get stick in the morning for not doing enough. Not sure many care jobs are any easier. But hospital based hca work has a better ratio of staff to patients, albiet with more nursed in bed patients.

Oh and try to find a hospital where you can do nights for more money (not all places offer more for nights). Hospitals also offer nvq's and courses in venepunture, cannulation and cathetirisation which might be useful?

Community care is more enjoyable than a nursing home in my opinion but you don't usually get paid for travel and can be hanging around between callouts
Might be better if you had a car?

That's care work I'm afraid
I've often done a late shift (1.30-9) as the only carer on my corridor. That's just me for 11 residents. (The fact there were other staff in the building means we meet legal requirements) . Angry

Some of mine should be two to one when lifting etc but your just expected to get them ready on the bed and then if they can stand with support get them into a wheelchair

Its the same in my home. If we have a 2:1 then we get them as ready as we can until the second carer arrives. It's crazy. I hate knowing I'm doing my best and they still don't get the care they deserve :(

I work in home care. It’s a lot more relaxed and better paid in my area.

It kills your back but when you have 10 to 12 people to get sorted what you suppose to do I do my best I'm interested to know how it is in other homes
