Considering my options - Bodyshop At Home

I’m working part-time but very few hours and could really do with earning some extra money!
I went to a bodyshop party event (pamper evening fundraiser) last week at my sister in laws kids school and got chatting to one of the consultants who was trying to “recruit” me to be part of her team.

She said she could do me a deal to buy “the starter kit” for £24 if I held a party and got £150’s worth of sales which didn’t sound bad but she said there was loads in it and when I googled it, I watched a YouTube video showing someone opening their kit and compared to the lovely table this lady had set up there was barely anything in it!!

I need to call her but is there any consultants (or ex consultants!) willing to advise me a bit on this as I don’t want to commit to
Something not viable!!

Questions I’ve thought of are:-

The starter kit - is this a one off kit or do they send consultants stuff to use as testers when new things come available??

Do you always get 25% of your sales??

Do you have to buy the catalogues?

Is the stock on sale and return or do you pay upfront for it? This lady had loads of stuff and was selling things on the night and there was only afew bits she didn’t have!!

I’ve discussed it with my partner and he said (with him shift working) I could probably do 1, maybe 2 parties a week.

Is anyone willing to spill the beans????

If you compare the hours you'll need to put in to the money you'll earn, you won't even make minimum wage. A shop job (or almost any other job) would be more reliable, better money and you won't be annoying your friends by trying to sell stuff to them all the time.

OP, please, if you do nothing that, read the poonique blog linked above. You stand very little chance I earning anything from an MLM.

There's the earn £10 a day thread over on money matters if you're looking for flexible and at home working, much better ideas over there that won't leave you out of pocket.

My cousin did this for a while. I didn't think it was MLM at first as it was body shop but it definitely came across the same as the usual younique etc with her constant messages and 50 social media posts. Also when I was interested the products were the same price as they were online only I would have to collect from her rather than get it delivered.

MLM = Multi-Level Marketing, aka pyramid scheme.

There's a lot of information about MLM schemes on threads elsewhere on Mumsnet and the general consensus is not to touch it with a bargepole.

I've been to a few of these parties held by friends over the years. To be honest, although they have special offers and discounts etc, I've often walked past or been into one of their shops shortly afterwards and found that the stuff I bought on special offer at the party is on a bigger offer in the shop.

It's really not worth the bother, I wouldn't do it if I were you.

If there's that many layers of management at bodyshop all taking a cut from the teams the stuff must be quite over-priced

DON'T DO IT.

The whole thing is set up for failure, as all MLM schemes.

Why on earth would people leave their warm, cosy houses to attend a "party" where they are getting the hard sell, when they could either log onto the Body Shop's own website and place an order, or go into a proper shop next time they're in town? Also there's a Body Shop outlet by me which regualrly offers 25% to 30% off anyway.

On the other hand, if you want to piss your friends off with constant social media posts about living your best life, being a #bossbabe and sacking the boss, go for it.
