Being a scentsy consultant?

I'm thinking about becoming a scentsy consultant. I've read up about mlms and I'm not expecting to make a living from it but i don't want to lose money either. Just want some opinions really!

Don’t bother. You’d be wasting your time and cash! I know two ladies who have become consultants and wish they hadn’t.

99.7% make nothing or lose money.

Do you really think you're going to be in the 0.3%?

MLM is an evil business model which should be illegal.

My SIL is one. The price of the warmers is astounding. I can’t understand who would buy them. I think they aren’t actually.

And that’s without the MLM consideration.

Would you join a pyramid scheme?

What on earth did you actually read about MLMs for you to still be considering this?!

You already know it's mlm so why even ask?
It doesn't work, simple as.

I've had a cull on social media this last week after numerous people posting how amazing to have half term off with their kids because they've early so so much being a self employed peddler of shite Hmm

Literally unfriended them all.
Scentsy appeared at our school xmas fate last year along with body shop at home and all the usual ones.
We all said we would boycott this years fate if it was all mlms.

Can't believe people still fall for it 🙄

Thanks all. I do like their products although I agree they are overpriced, in particular the warmers. just read up Linn what they are (had never even heard of mlms until I mentioned on Facebook I was considering joining and a girl messaged me to tell me she would avoid it and sent minds a link to a documentary although that was about mlms but not scentsy. I don't especially need the extra income but i don't want to end up being at a loss or feeling constant pressure. They make it sound so good though don't they. Does your SIL enjoy it socks? Thank again. I probably will give out a miss.

If you think the products are overpriced (and I agree), it will be hard to sell them, even to your friends and family. There are loads on ebay for sale.

TabithasMumCaroline · 27/10/2019 01:57

Just don’t. You’ll end up paying for it all yourself and lose all your friends when you beg them to buy from you out of desperation.
There’s an ace long running thread on here where they track the more common mlm shenanigans. It ain’t pretty.

Talkthirtytome · 27/10/2019 01:03

Yes I must agree waves, I'm not sure how convincing I would sound trying to get someone to pay £61 for a warmer when you can get one for £15 on ebay. DP offered to pay the £85 start up fee as before finding out what MLMs involve I was up for it but watching the documentary really made me reconsider hence this post. I shall try and find the thread tab! Might be an eye opener.

I stupidly signed up after being offered a free starter kit and regretted it instantly! In 3 months, half my friends list blocked me, I tried door to door sales & sold nothing. I ran out of free wax samples & catalouges quickly & had to spend money to get more to continue toting for customers.
The products are just too expensive to shift & there are already more scentsy consultants per square mile than there are spiders! According to my area manager I hadn't put in enough effort......short of kidnapping people & forcing them to buy off me I tried EVERYTHING!!! I FINALLY managed to book a party snd thought I'd made a good sale, only to gain NOTHING from it. Between my petrol to get there & back and the huge shipping fees for the customers orders, I JUST managed to break even..(no free or half price products for this mug)....the whole thing is a nonsense and I've sinced pulled out. I wouldn't reccommend it to anyone. It's just time consuming, annoying and not worth the effort. Do not believe the hype! Consultants only advertise for new team members in order to get a damn upgrade (extra commission), NOT because they are doing well & want to share the wealth!

All this negativity! I’ve been a consultant for 3 years, I love it, if you are losing friends and money then you are doing it all wrong. I’m not a pushy seller, I’m not a confident mum, but I have so many amazing school mum friends and they all love having party’s and sniffing the wax at my coffee mornings. It’s against the rules to pay for someone’s starter kit. We are a supportive group and some of us make a decent living (I make pocket money, it’s not a get rich quick scheme and it’s not what you would consider a pyramid scheme) our products cost money because they are safe, come with a lifetime guarantee and look and smell gorgeous! Please don’t bash another mums business, we work hard, and you are essentially pitching up outside another mums shop telling everyone they are not to be trusted because someone else you know, or you yourself have failed with your own shop in the past. MLM is not the devil, we are not scamming you, ripping you off or ruining your life. Scentsy saved me. Dramatic I know but it’s the truth. If it’s not working out you can walk away and after 4 months your account closes, no catch, the kit is still yours. Please talk to one of us before deciding we are deluded. This isn’t for everyone, I get that, but it’s so important to a lot of people out there. Please don’t hate us for doing something we love.

I too love sniffing the wax at a coffee morning. Sorry but this is the most unintentionally hilarious sentence I've ever read on here.

Bang on time a brainwashed concert shows up.
I echo the majority of previous posters OP, don’t do it. And thank the person who sent you the link to the documentary profusely.

If you’re still a little unsure read the Elle Beau blog, it’s about another MLM but the principles and processes are all very similar - I had a friend who got involved with Scentsy and read the blog and agreed wholeheartedly. She also ended up stressed, losing friends and money.

That effusive post boils down to 'I'm doing it exactly right and only just breaking even'

It's an incredibly unwise choice, and being an unpaid sales rep (commission only) is a very risky choice especially if you have pay to get that post.

Putting people down and laughing at them really isn't called for. Nobody brainwashed me. I'm enjoying my work. I'm sorry that people have had bad experiences.

Those who are brainwashed do not know that they are brainwashed, that's how it works.
