I got the job - what about my pre-booked holiday?

I interviewed for a job two weeks ago. They said they would let me know the outcome about 10 days ago but I didn't hear anything. So, feeling exhausted and burned out with the endless job search and effort, last night I decided to book a short trip away to see friends.

The holiday is from Tues - Friday in the second week of November. I really want to go, but I know that jobs generally don't want you to take holidays in the initial probationary period.

Should I tell them about the hol and ask if it would be ok? Should I even say I am willing to not go if it isn't suitable?

*basically I just booked the hol last night and today they offered me the job, saying the process took longer than expected due to company director being abroad.

Usually a job offer involves negotiation of pre booked holiday. It's rarely an issue.
Congratulations :o

They will be fine. Just email or call and say "just wanted to let you know I have pre booked holidays, do I need to give you the dates now or can I just let you know on my starting day?"

I think most companies will allow you to take a pre booked holiday. Just tell HR when you accept the job. Congratulations!

I have never known a rebooked holiday to be an issue starting a new job. They don't need to know you only just booked it.

Did they ask about holidays at the interview? If not, I’d just tell them, but not about when you booked it. Offer to take unpaid leave, if that helps.

Pre booked holidays are pretty much always honoured, I’ve never known them not to be

It’s never been an issue for me, or any of the employees I have ever hired.

Never been an issue anywhere I've worked (I've not done it, but have known others who have). Usually they'll ask you at the contract signing stage whether they need to honour any holidays upcoming so they can submit it into the payroll system.

Thanks everyone. They said the holiday isn't a problem at all. But as it will be during the probationary period, they need to check with the accountant about holiday pay during the time.

I suppose I may need to take it unpaid.
