How did you decide on a career?

I fell into my first career by being in the right place at the right time but hated it! I worked my way up the career ladder and my mental health suffered resulting in me taking the first job that came along and it was a civil service job. I’ve been doing the role less than 5 years. The people are lovely that I work with but I don’t enjoy the work, disagree with some of the policies and feel unfulfilled. I am not incentivised by the salary as with living wage increases my so called pay rises are laughable. I don’t want to follow the management route in the job I am in. I want to change career after my maternity leave but I don’t want to just jump into something as I have done previously. I have no idea where to start even thinking about a change in career! I feel like I have wasted the last decade and I made some poor education choices resulting in qualifications I will never use. Any tips of advice on where or how to start trying to figure out what career would be a good choice will be appreciated as I just feel lost!

There was never any compromise for me. I had to do what I loved doing and that was writing.

Obviously people don't just make a living from writing straight out of university so I trained to be a copywriter.

Look at what you love. Work out how to make that into a career.
