Changing career - transferable skills help?

I was hoping you lovely ladies might be able to help.

I currently have a marketing degree + 5 years experience in marketing. Experience covers both B2B and B2C, and is traditional marketing as well as digital, all within the construction industry.

In short my role is to project manage all marketing communications from start to finish, plus manage an agreed budget.

My question is, I'd love to move into project management but dint have formal qualifications for it and my job title is only at executice level.

What are your thoughts in terms of my chances of moving into perhaps a junior project management role? Any advice?

"Project managing" marcomms is odd phrasing? Do you mean you run all the campaigns etc. Ditto "managing" a budget. It has the effect of making you sound very removed from it all, not hands on.

Are you maybe trying to retrofit PM terminology to a marketing job? If so, you don't need to try so hard. You have plenty of the attributes needed to be a a PM already.
If you can get on a proper course (lean/sigma/scrum - whatever version your co already uses) that will help immensely. And maybe try and find a mentor you can talk to as well.

I've worked with self taught and professional consultancy PMs and they both achieve the same goal, but the latter is usually more than aware they charge by the hour, and maximise it!

Thanks for your reply.

No, not trying to retroactively make the language fit, that's how it's all phrased in my job description.

So the board and head of department agree all budgets at the start of the financial year and then its "handed over" to me to execute and manage as they phrase it.

Thanks - I work for a SME so they dont use anything like that at all! I will look into courses, prince2 always comes up but then I've also read that's quite "outdated" and not really needed anymore?
