Becoming Self Employed

Hi All,

Hope you are all well.

I am a chef looking to become self employed so I can start making a name for myself and maximise my earnings.

Trying to figure out whether I should register as a Sole Trader or a Limited Company.

Most of the work will be carried bymyself through freelance. However, I would like to do pop ups also. Pop Ups will require me to hire an assistant chef and perhaps a couple of waiters/waitresses. Can hire I staff if I have only registed as a sole trader? Seems like a silly question but thought I would ask anyway.

Also, any advice for me on becoming Self EMployed as I know it's the right thing but I am battling some feelings of fear/anxiety. I believe in myself and my experience but having a daughter now who is turning 1 in 4 days has mad me lose a bit of my fearlessness.

Hope you all have a lovely weekend and look forward to chatting to those interested.

Thanks,

Kay

You can employ staff as a sole trader. You just need to make sure you are doing it legally. As to whether you are sole trader or limited depends on a huge range of factors. You are best getting a consultation with an accountant to discuss your options if you are unsure. Best of luck, it's very liberating, albeit very hard, being self employed.
