Ok so I'm a young women, 25 and want to start a cleaning business. Just me, self employed, going to peoples homes and cleaning them! I have savings to buy the necessities, but my question is, where do I start? What insurance do I need? Do I need to insure my car as a business vehicle ? How do I do my taxes or register the business? I am completely out of my depth and have no idea. FYI I have worked as a cleaner for the past 2 years and currently work as housekeeper in a local hotel so have experience! Thank you so much in advance!

Visit Business Enterprise and see if there's any funding available for you.

As you're 25 you count as a young person for some thresholds and so might get a grant to help you get started.

They'll also be able to point you in the right direction for liability insurance, tax purposes and you're right about changing your car insurance to business use.

Although you don’t necessarily need one it may be a good idea to have a DBS certificate.
Also, look on the gov.uk website about registering as self employed, etc.

Business insurance for your car is an extra you can add onto your policy unless your insured with direct line, it's already added into the cost of your premium.
