New baby clothing brand - your views?

Hi, I've recently launched a little business called Jack & Ginger designing and printing baby grows - hoping to extend this to t-shirts and include a range for toddlers and older kids soon.

Will be attending fairs over the coming 12 months but at the moment the products are only available to buy online.

Grows are ethically sourced, made from organic cotton and the print uses high grade garment vinyl for the best results and soft non-peel baby friendly branding.

You are not compliant with the Consumer Contract Regulations. I didn't get much further than reading your returns policy as an illegal one of these puts me off ordering.

The cow and gate design looks like a breach of intellectual property laws (unless you had permission from both cow and gate and Coca Cola).

Thanks for your comments, constructive criticism is always useful. I wonder if you have any thoughts on the brand itself and the garments though?

delilahbucket - We take our returns policy seriously and get guidance from official sources (www.which.co.uk/consumer-rights/advice/can-i-cancel-an-online-order). "There are some orders where you won't have the right to cancel. These include items that are bespoke or personalised..." Of course all of our standard products can be returned if they are unwanted and/or faulty within 14 days but we can't extend this to a grow or t-shirt that has been printed with the name of a baby or a custom slogan. Also for hygiene reasons we can't offer refunds on garments that have been worn unless they are faulty.

DonkeyOaty & Ttbb - We were being a little bit cheeky with this design! Looking at the IP rules we probably should either change the design or remove it from our range. No harm intended, we just wanted to bring a smile with a twist on an iconic image.

The spelling mistake in the first line on the homepage put me off.. should read ‘designed and printed in the uk’ not ‘designed and printing’ I think?

I think your target market is more people buying novelty gifts that parents tbh.

Vests get covered so I wouldn't see the point of spending so much on them. Grows get stained and outgrown quickly. I just couldn't justify the expense.

I'm sorry that this is going to sound negative, but you did ask for constructive criticism...

The website needs a really careful proof read. There are various grammatical errors and inconsistencies, such as the use of capital letters. And the different but nearly the same fonts are hard on the eye

I hate, hate, hate the Mum and Dad stuff descriptions. Why does mummy have to be there all the time to make them smile, while daddy gets to be the knight in shining armour?

I like the idea of the bundles, but who needs a chalk board to count down day by day ? (Especially when babies tend to come when they are ready, not when a chalk board says so)

The price point looks good.

You could include more info on your supply chain, given that you state that it is 100% ethical.

PeasAndHarmony - thanks for taking the time to visit the site. Yes, we need to proof read in full I think. It's useful to get comments prior to marketing it. An extra pair of eyes and all that... Did you look at any of the products? Do you have any comments on price point etc?

ijustwannadance - Yes I agree. I see these as gifts rather than day-to-day baby wear. Would you be happy if someone bought your little one a grow or a gift bundle? Would you find it fun/useful?

I think the designs are cute and I can imagine buying them as gifts. I think you need more pics of your bundles.. So they come beautifully wrapped? In fact beautiful wrapping should feature somewhere..
Otherwise, prices look good if the products are nice quality. I agree.. ethically sourced needs to be on there somewhere

I will take on board the comments about the fonts and trial some alternative combinations. The typewriter font matches the branding but I can see that it might be harder on the eye than regular styles.

Mum and Dad descriptions - point taken. It was written to be light hearted but I can see that this is perhaps a little 'fluffy' and stereotypical.

The bundles are gift ideas, some people will like certain products and others won't, I guess it's down to personal taste.

The photos don’t appear to be of ‘actual’ products it looks like they are just the same blank babygro photo which has been photoshopped with some designs on top. That would tend to put me off, it means I can’t see the quality of the print and what it would actually look like and I could get a babygro with my own choice of text on eBay for a lot less..

TheMogget - a photo shoot is on the list for when budget permits! This is an accurate depiction of the garments though. Blank shots have been supplied by the manufacturer. If you take a look at the instagram feed you'll see close up shots of printed garments.

Honestly? I could get much more interesting babygros on Redbubble or Zazzle or similar. These aren't that interesting, they aren't that different, they aren't particularly cheap. I only know they are organic cotton because you said so on this thread, not because anything on the website leapt out at me.

"I'm kinda a big deal" doesn't need the 'a' because 'kinda' = kind of a, so the 'a' is redundant.

I think they are extortionate for something that will not last long. A short-sleeved Christmas babygro would be covered in many layers and therefore unseen.

the website doesn't seem to be working properly. I can only see bodysuits and no baby grows. I really don't like the designs sorry. not into slogans on baby clothes. Not really anything original about it.

I think the products are quite expensive for what is basically a plain white baby gro with a slogan on it.

I can only see vests. Most people I know used plain white vests only as they are worn under a babygrow/t shirt so no point in paying lots for them. I'd be more interested in babygrows but I can't see any of those.

Firstly well done you both for the website and the professional way you took some of the criticism. I love the name and the website works well on a smart phone.

I would feature more baby grows rather than vests as just from a pratical point I would buy this type of product for a baby and the vests are normally always under something unless it’s the height of summer!

That was a good point that someone made about being willing to pay more for a babygro than a onesie vest, as the onesie vest will almost always be covered up by something.
